CARAMEL 180 BAKED FRENCH OAK FLOORING

This beautiful French Oak is first kiln dried and then baked in huge ovens at 180oC. This has several effects:

  • It changes the colour to a beautiful chocolate brown throughout the thickness of the board, so even after sanding they retain their colour, unlike stained boards.
  • It changes the cell walls of the wood reducing its capacity to take up or give out moisture (the main reason for movement in use). Hence the boards are suitable for use over underfloor heating, and areas of variable humidity such as kitchens and bathrooms.
  • Boards must be glued down as the change in cell structure makes nailing difficult. Can be sanded as normal oak boards.
  • Boards can be finished as normal with hardwax oil or lacquer finish.
  • Boards look great in period and new properties.
