| We often get asked about what sort of finish to use on their floor. We supply several different types. Below you will find a list with some pointers as to which might be most appropriate for your needs. The number in red after the name is the hardness of the surface in terms of its resistance to abrasion - the higher the number the stronger it is. To see the coverage and price of each have a look at the table on our price list here LACQUERS vs OILS. The main difference between the laquers and oils which we sell, is how the product sits on top of the wooden floor. Oils are applied in several coats which soak into the suraface of the timber by a millimetre or two whereas the laquer forms a 'skin' on the top surface. Laquers tend to be stronger than the oil finish, but if the floor is deeply scratched more oil can be applied whereas it is more difficult to touch up a laquered floor. While the oiled repair is still visible it is no longer permeable. The Oil finishes tend to break down with ultraviolet light and thus require recoating from time to time (depending on wear/sunlight etc). |
