Do you know which adhesive you should use to lay oak floors?

OPTIONS: Solid timber boards directly onto solid concrete:

You must use a flexible adhesive – we stock either SIKABOND or REWMAR which are solvent free, flexible adhesives and both of which have been tried and tested by many of our customers. Both adhesives are applied with a notched trowel, just like tile adhesive.  However, it is vital that you use the correct trowel – e.g. Sikabond T54 is applied with a 3mm notch trowel – if you use a 6mm notch trowel you will use double the amount of adhesive!  Always ensure that the concrete subfloor is sound and fully dry.

TECTONIC™ engineered boards directly onto a solid subfloor:

Either use a flexible adhesive as above to stick the boards down or use a strong wood glue (such as Lecol PVA) to glue the tongues and grooves together and float the boards over an underlay.  Don’t try to use both methods together – use one or the other.  Always ensure that the subfloor is sound and fully dry.

TECTONIC™ engineered boards directly onto a solid subfloor over UFH:

You will get a better transfer of heat if you use an all over contact flexible adhesive such as Sikabond T54 or Rewmar MS Polymer as above.  Always ensure that the subfloor is sound and dry.

TECTONIC™ engineered boards directly onto joists or batons over UFH:

Sikabond T2 can be applied in ‘liquid baton’ form to glue the boards across the beams or batons.  You can also combine this method with secret nailing if you are using wider boards (180mm and wider) rather than using surface nailing – although any nailing near UFH pipes needs to be carried out with great caution.

Parquet or block flooring over a solid subfloor:

Small wooden blocks or parquet flooring can be stuck down with a rigid adhesive such as Lecol 5500.  (N.B. Lecol 5500 is a water-free, alcohol based formula which does contain solvents.)  Always ensure that the subfloor is sound and fully dry first.
